Our Animal Skin range has water, protein, minerals, fat. The offered skins are first soaked to clean and rehydrate them. Proteolytic enzymes help the soaking process. Lipases are also utilized to break down and remove fat. Dehairing is then done in an alkaline bath using alkaline protease like subtilisin. Alkaline conditions expand the hair roots, allowing proteases to target the hair follicle protein. Hair removal with potent chemical agents such as lime and sulphur causes the hide to expand and the hair to loosen and damage. The enzyme-based dehairing process for our Animal Skin range reduces tannery contamination.
